The Adjustment Bureau Filming [Dec. 7th, 2009|04:52 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , ]

Beware, this journal is about to get all Holidays In New York on you! You have been warned! My parents are in town and we are seeing LIGHTS! And WINDOWS! And ICE RINKS! OH MY!

But first, before I go all Holiday on you, I do have a quick interlude ... another set. Yes, yes, another set. Okay? At least it's not Law and Order related! In fact, it was big time: The Adjustment Bureau staring, ... wait for it... Matt Damon. Ohhhh, yeah. Didn't get my picture with him, no (now *that* would be a coup) but it was a beautiful day and a fun set visit.

The Sherri Show Taping [Sep. 20th, 2009|03:04 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

So, the first bigish event this week was The Informant Premiere. That was Tuesday. Then on Friday Shauna and Kristin, once more showed their free ticket fu, and got tickets for a taping of an episode of The Sherri Show (which is a new Lifetime half hour sitcom starring Sherri Shepherd. You know, like "This show was taped in front of a live studio audience". Yeah, that was me, part of the studio audience. :)

Having never been to a taping of a sitcom before and having, honestly, never even heard of Sherri Sheperd or knowing anything about her, I had pretty much no expectations going in other than it would be new and different. And considering that I do enjoy watching TV being made, I was pretty sure I'd enjoy myself.

And I was right, I really *did* enjoy myself. The only real downside was that it lasted FOREVER! But still, I'm so glad I went. Because in the end it really was fun.

Porque haha?

The Beautiful Life [Aug. 10th, 2009|01:06 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

I went for a morning jog this morning. Almost didn't. When the alarm went off oh, how I bargained with myself to stay in bed and not go. But I did. Dragged my butt out of bed and out the door. Did my normal route down towards the Brooklyn Bridge. After walking for 10 minutes I stopped and stretched and then started my jog, a jog that takes me right by the courthouses. And…what's this? Filming? At 7:00 in the morning? And…what's this? A red carpet on the courthouse steps? And a horse drawn carriage? What is going on?!?!

Thankfully, I have learned the most important lesson of all and learned it well: never go anywhere in New York without a camera. Never go anywhere. Including your morning run.

Sorcerer's Apprentice Filming [Apr. 26th, 2009|12:41 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]

Thanks to OLV I knew that Sorcerer's Aprentice, a movie staring Nicolas Cage would be filming around 42nd and Madison after dark. Even though I've been wanting to try to catch some of this moving being filmed, after my long tulip walk and knowing that I was doing something all day the next day, I almost decided not to go.

But I did. And the experience was somehow both a big time fail and a big time win. I didn't see much, but I saw some. And the pictures are total poo but the experience was just...really kind of funny.

Another set? Are you SERIOUS? Yes, I am: CSI: NY [Oct. 12th, 2008|10:10 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]

So, Monday was Lipstick Jungle and SVU.

Tuesday was SVU.

Then came Wednesday. You'd think I'd had enough of the set hopping, wouldn't you? But you'd be wrong. For Wednesday found me at the set of CSI: NY. Because, why not? Seriously, there must have been something in the air. Actually, I think it was the fact that I was near the end of a 9 month project at work and I needed serious stress relief and it was wonderful to have the time to indulge. :D Fortunately, I've gotten EXCEEDINGLY lucky with my timing and that luck continued. I probably only spent 45 minutes away from work: 10 minutes to walk to the set, 40 minutes to watch some filming (this is where I got lucky—I arrived 5 minutes before they started filming the scene), and 10 minutes to walk back home (picking up a diet Coke on the way back, of course, lol).

But after this, really, seriously. I mean SERIOUSLY. THAT's a wrap. No more set visits!

At least until the next one. hehe

Hey! It's Gary Sinise! )

Time to indulge in SVU...it's been so long. :D [Oct. 12th, 2008|09:20 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , ]

Alright, SVU-time! (That's not as snappy as peanut-butter-jelly-time, but that's okay). Basically, the whole thing was just a trip.

The best part of SVU filming in my neighborhood was just how MUCH of it there was. They were here for two days straight and had at least four different sets within a two block radius of each other (not all at once)—two day sets and two night sets. And the set dressing and the equipment needed for all those sets and for lighting both day and night…walking around my block felt like I was walking around the back lots of Universal or something like that. The entire area was just movie magic where ever you looked. Not to mention the fact that every time I left my apartment I practically ran into Belzer, Meloni, or Ice-T or all three of them (but no Mariska Hargitay as she wasn't in any of these scenes). Also, the scenes themselves were generally interesting to watch film (one not so much, but one especially so).

So, all in all, a ton of fun and, as I said, just such a trip.

BTW, if you're not a fan of SVU, this will probably be long and boring. Heck, even if you ARE a fan of SVU, this still might be long and boring. Don't say I didn't warn you. :)

Set Hopping Part 1 and 2: Lipstick Jungle & CI [Oct. 11th, 2008|01:29 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , ]

Alright, my Monday continues. I already knew they were going to be filming SVU in the vicinity of my neighborhood—pretty hard to miss when every street is blanketed with the no parking production signs. But thanks to On Location Vacations I was also aware of several other productions in the area within probably a half a mile from me. To give you an idea, I got all geeky and put them on a map:

MapOfSets
A cluster of three set locations. A veritable smorgasbord of viewing opportunities.

The one on the right is the SVU set. In the middle, the set for Lipstick Jungle, and the one on the left, Criminal Intent. And I'm expected to work when so much is happening so close??

Lipstick Jungle, ahoy! )

On The Set of 30 Rock [Sep. 12th, 2008|05:13 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , ]

Alright, as promised, some color.

So, it was discovered that Diane Neal would be guest starring in an episode of 30 Rock that was to begin filming this week. For those that don't watch SVU as religiously as I do, Diane Neal is the super-cool actress that played the ADA, Casey Novak. Last season was her last season on SVU so on to other things she went and one of those was this turn on 30 Rock. Well, once I found out where 30 Rock was filming, it was hard to resist crashing the set to see what there was to see.

And, though there wasn't much (any) of the set that I (we) could see as it was indoors, there sure was some celeb sighting to do. :)

Also, I found out once again that I can be a real freak, lol.

Not one, but two productions [Jun. 6th, 2008|08:06 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

Yet another example that there's always SOMETHING to see, there's always SOMETHING going on.

When I come home at night, if I don't walk from work, then I usually take which ever train comes first, whether it's the local train or the express train. If it's the express, I'll overshoot my stop and have walk back. But that's fine with me.

Today, as I went down the stairs at Grand Central, the express was waiting at the station so I ducked into it. It dumped me out at City Hall and I started my walk back.

I headed over to Broadway just to be different and headed north. And thank goodness I did! Five blocks and 10 minutes later, I'd gone past two sets of production trailers, and...and something more...

Celebrity sightings ahoy! )

The International Filming [Jan. 13th, 2008|02:29 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

Using information from On Location Vacations that something called “The International" was being filmed up in the 50s on Friday. I looked it up and Clive Owen was staring in it and I hadn’t stalked any sets lately so this sounded like something that would be fun to check out. My last meeting at work ended around 3:30 or 4:00 so I headed out a little early for my little adventure.

In the end, I didn't see any actual filming...nor did I see any of the leads. But I did see a lot of really cool prep work (they were getting ready to film a big night-time car chase scene) and had a nice chat with one of the stunt drivers. All in all, it was still a fun outing.
